Today (Thursday 25 March) sees the launch of a three month consultation inviting everyone involved in Associated British Ports’ (ABP) Port of Immingham and members of the public to have their say on ABP’s draft master plan for its future.

John Fitzgerald, Port Director of Associated British Ports’ (ABP) Port of Grimsby and Immingham, will present the draft master plan for 2010 to 2030 to representatives of some of the many businesses involved in the port today. He will outline ABP’s vision for Immingham’s future growth and development and invite feedback.

He is also announcing a two-day public exhibition in the town of Immingham (9 &10 April), and public online access to the master plan at

www.abports.co.uk/imminghamconsultation

He explains, “The Port of Immingham is one of the UK’s most significant trade gateways and plays a vital role in our regional economy. We feel that it’s important for everyone to understand what we do today and what we are aiming to do in the future. We are looking forward to people having their say.”

Anyone interested in the master plan can learn more about it online, through the ABP master plan consultation team, at main libraries or at the public exhibition.

The community is invited to consider the plans and give its views via the website, by e-mail to

imminghamconsultation@abports.co.uk or by post using the freepost feedback forms that are available from the main libraries and the Port.

The key objectives of the Immingham master plan are to:

  • describe and explain the Port’s strategic planning for the medium to long term;

  • identify how land currently owned by ABP at the Port of Immingham may be developed, or its land rationalised, as appropriate, to handle the forecast growth in maritime trade;

  • set out the approximate timescales for development;

  • assist regional and local planning bodies and transport network providers in preparing and revising their own development strategies;

  • inform port users, employees and local communities as to how they can expect to see the Port develop over the coming years.

Charles Lewis, Chairman of the Humber Economic Partnership has welcomed the Port of Immingham master plan consultation, saying: “The Port of Immingham plays a pivotal role in driving the local, regional and national economies. The Humber Economic Partnership is delighted that ABP plays a major role in helping it to fulfil its objectives in supporting economic development throughout the Humber region.”

The consultation ends on 25 June and the final master plan will be published later this year. A draft master plan for the Port of Grimsby will be outlined next year.
