Containers

With a sizeable tidal window, the port is ideally located to serve the South West Wales industrial hinterland with container traffic by road, rail and sea. It is also well-positioned to provide feeder services to the Northern Continent and the Iberian Peninsula. Objective One funding may be available to companies establishing new container-handling services.

Swansea Container Terminal, located at the eastern end of King’s Dock, is operated by Swansea Container Terminal plc and offers the following facilities:

  • Terminal area of 2.86 ha equipped with a 35-tonne capacity Liebherr container crane and a range of high-capacity container trucks.
  • Substantial concrete hard-standing.
  • Direct access to UK rail network supported by Approved Freight Service Operator status for Channel Tunnel traffic.
  • Daily intermodal rail service offered by EWS.

In addition, D Shed Container Terminal offers two 40-tonne capacity quayside cranes, direct rail link from berth, substantial concrete hard-standing and a range of high-capacity container trucks.
