MANAGEMENT TRAINING SCHEME
Deadline: 11 January 2009
150 million tonnes of cargo, some 2,300 employees, the UK's leading and largest ports company. Is this what you're looking for?
The ports industry is at the heart of the UK economy. 96% of the nation's imports and exports pass through UK ports, and within the industry, one name stands out: Associated British Ports (ABP). Handling around 25% of the UK's seaborne trade, operating in 21 ports across the UK, no other ports operator comes close.
We're a highly successful business with an annual turnover of almost half a billion pounds in 2007 - a figure that's set to grow year on year. So, if you're looking for an environment where your career potential, ability to plan ahead, make decisions, solve problems and communicate effectively will be developed to the full, this is it. After all, there's no shortage of challenges.
Commencing August 2009 and lasting 12 months, our graduate development programme in General Management lays the foundations for a rewarding career within a vital and dynamic industry.
Our general management programme provides a wide range of experience, in areas as diverse as marketing, finance, engineering and property. You'll complete the programme with a clear understanding of how we run our business, and with hands-on experiencethat will set you up for your first full management role.
You’ll be given five weeks induction into the sharp end of port operations before going on to two, six-month placements in two of our three major port areas, South Wales, Humber and Southampton. You’ll gain real understanding of how ABP manages its services and the facilities available to clients as you spend time in all of our main business departments. During the programme, you will have access to a Graduate Programme Manager, whose responsibility it is to make sure the programme is running well, and a mentor, who will keep an eye on how you are doing.
Join the programme, and you'll receive full support to continue your studies towards a professional qualification. There's also a comprehensive rewards package, including a starting salary of around £24.6k, pension scheme, private health insurance and 25 days holiday.
So what do you need? Certainly a 2:2 (or equivalent) or better. Equally important is an enthusiasm for our business and a determination to carve out a place for yourself in a demanding environment.
