Several ABP ports have the facilities and expertise to handle fresh produce and other perishables, which include fish, fruit and vegetables, fruit juices and fruit-juice concentrates, butter, hard-frozen meat and other meat products.
The ports with the capability to handle fresh produce and perishables boast the most up-to-date handling and distribution facilities, including cold and ambient storage.
Customers can expect the following from ABP’s ports:
- Cold and ambient storage facilities
- The expertise to handle refrigerated ships and/or refrigerated containers
- Excellent rail, road and waterborne distribution connections
- At the Port of Southampton, extended and refurbished temperature-controlled storage and handling facilities
- The container-handling facilities of DP World Southampton and Tilbury Container Services, both of which handle containerised fresh produce and perishable products
- Electronic fish-auction facilities at the Ports of Troon, Hull, Lowestoft and Grimsby, with ‘real-time’ Internet access to international fish markets
- The buoyant fish market at Fleetwood
- The use of the latest technology for the safe handling, monitoring, stock control and storage of fresh produce and perishables
- Deep-water berthing for those vessels that require it; high-volume discharge rates
